The linky is at the bottom.

For the last 2 weeks we have been focusing on the letter a and apples. We read some great books with some yummy looking recipes we plan to try. This week, however, I wanted to make something simple and tasty. So I went with Apple Crisp. Stay tuned for some more great recipes though, homemade applesauce, apple muffins, applesauce cake and then some apple pie for Thanksgiving. Gotta love apples!
I am not sure where I found this recipe as I have been using it for a while, but it seems to be a pretty basic Apple Crisp recipe.

Ingredients:

Filling:
10 cups peeled, cored and sliced apples
1 cup white sugar
1 Tbs flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 water

Topping:
1 cup quick-cooking oats
1 cup flour
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup butter, melted

Mommy started by slicing the apples, then I had the girls join me.

These are the filling ingredients.

These are the topping ingredients

Adding the sugar to the apples.

Then we added the tablespoon of flour and the cinnamon and then we stirred.

We poured the apples into a 9x13 pan and poured the water over the top.

Amelia wanted a turn to level the flour, so I let her do that and add it to the oats.

Then she added the brown sugar. And I added the baking powder and baking soda.

Of course, mommy melted the butter and added it.

Then it was time to stir again.

Then Amelia helped me add the topping to the pan.

Ready to go in the oven. Unfortunately we had to wait until after supper cooked as daddy had to work.

I think they may be excited about the dessert.

So was I. Of course, we had to have Cool Whip.

Do you have your children help you in the kitchen?  What lessons do they learn? Do you have any kid friendly recipes to share?

I'd love to see your posts, whether you have done something this week or some time in the past. Just link up below. This is a weekly linky.
